Parker and Fanning Launches new venture airtime
June 6, 2012
Sean Parker and Shawn Fanning have launched their new digital start-up airtime. The Duo who brought us Napster have been teasing its launch for some time now, and with it available as a usable product many people are critiquing it.
Sean Parker has stated at the airtime press launch that "Facebook isn't helping you build new connections" implying that the new tools purpose is solving the problem of meeting people online. Airtime contains some cool features like introducing people by interests, based on all your metadata that has been inputted into Facebook.
So the service allows you to meet and communicate with new people based on these interests, but what it also does is act as a cool stand alone chat room for video and text for Facebook friends. This function allows communication with people without the necessity of being on Facebook's stand alone site or something like Skype or FaceTime.
So we will see how useful this new tool becomes and with Sean Parker behind it I am sure it will be interesting to follow. Furthermore during its launch you could actually meet Mark Zuckerberg as he was testing and playing with his President's new toy.
Personally I believe the internet is a great way to stay connected with friends and family but actually meeting people I think should stay old school.
