Indigenous Artists Making Waves

In celebration of NAIDOC Week, we wanted to shine a spotlight on some of our Indigenous artists making waves (and beautiful music) at the moment.

We recently interviewed Gawurra and it was one of the most touching and inspirational interviews we’ve ever done. Gawurra writes about his culture, history, family and nature, and the end result is music that’s so beautiful it transcends language barriers.

Loren Ryan

Loren Ryan was one of our Fed Square Live finalists, and for good reason too! Loren is able to play just about any genre and play it well she does. Just checkout her live Youtube videos or her Unearthed page to see for yourself.

Leah Flanagan

Leah Flanagan has just released her first singe, ‘Chills’, off her forthcoming album, ‘Saudades’. ‘Chills’ is simply stunning and gives us a promising insight into what her soon to be released album will sound like.

Philly is becoming one of Aussie hip-hop’s mainstays and he continues to go from strength to strength. We caught his set at last year’s BIGSOUND and were blown away by his talent and stage presence. Keep an eye on this one!

Self-described 'explorative pop’ group, Pirra, came together  this 4-piece’s new album is immanent and we can’t wait! There’s a little preview on their Facebook page, so check it out.

Based in Alice Springs, CAAMA Music champion Indigenous musicians from across Australia, giving them the exposure they need to take over the music industry. Their roster includes Guwarra, Kev Starkey, Frank Yamma, Kristal West and many more.

Held in July each year, NAIDOC Week celebrates the culture, history and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. To find out more about NIADOC week, head over to the site.
