How Elliot Root Stormed The Spotify Charts
January 22, 2016
Ditto distributed Elliot Root have started 2016 in fine form, releasing a new EP to much critical acclaim and managing to break into the viral top 50 chart on Spotify. We caught up with them to find out how they did it and what their plans are for the rest of 2016.
Congratulations on the new EP, Thoughts from yesterday. How does it feel seeing it perform so well in the Spotify charts?
Thanks so much. Creating music in itself has its own inherent rewards, anytime you get recognition outside of initially creating a body of work, it's just an added bonus.
What would you say has been the biggest reason for the success of this EP?
I don't think there's ever any specific formula for making "successful" music, so we're just happy people are connecting with it. If you had any advice for a new band just starting out, what would it be? Be as honest with yourself and your music as you possibly can be.
Have you got any live dates planned? How do you go about securing gigs?
We are currently booking a tour for this summer. We have an awesome agent at CAA, Matthew Morgan, who's helping lead that charge. So far we'll be playing a few dates for Bristol Rhythm & Roots, Firefly Music festival, and working on a number more.
You have used Ditto Music for distribution on the new EP. What is it about Ditto Music distribution that you like?
It's really personal. You feel less caught up in the machine, instead there's a real sense of responsibility and connection on their end from the music you distribute.
Who is your big tip for a breakout 2016 (apart from yourselves!)
There is so much amazing talent in Nashville right now, but I've been really impressed by the guys in Future Thieves and their new record Horizon Line.
We'll be keeping a close eye on the fortunes of Elliot Root over 2016, I'm sure we'll be hearing a lot more of them! You can buy Thoughts From Yesterday on iTunes now.
