Festival Opportunities for Unsigned Acts

So you have been practising all winter and now its time to get out there and play some gigs! With festival season around the corner you may be wondering how you can get your music act on the festival bill?
Here is a list of some of the best music festivals that unsigned musicians can apply for.
Isle of Wight Festival
The Isle of Wight Festival has been home to some of the biggest acts in the world over the years including; Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones and Kings of Leon
Stages being made available are on the Main Stage, The Big Top, The Cabaret Club, The Beach, The Hipshaker Lounge and the Bandstand. The best acts will be shortlisted, and put through to the final of Isle of Wight Festival Unsigned, which takes place in London in March. You can click here to apply for the Isle Of Wight Festival
Generator Presents: Evolution Emerging Festival
Last year saw the likes of Dizzee Rascal and Maximo Park playing to thousands of festival go-ers. This year Generator are looking for 25 bands from the North East of England to play a range of opening slots. For the first time ,one artist will have the chance to open the main stage.

The Secret Garden Party
The Secret Garden Party is an independent festival that acts as an alternative to the mainstream festivals.
Since it’s inception in 2004 TSGP has been growing in size and stature. Famous for it's themes and fancy dress as well as the music, TSGP should definitely a must for festival goers and aspiring artists. TSGP been home to established acts such as Florence and the Machine, The XX, Lyki Li, Echo and the Bunnymen, Jarvis Cocker and Goriilaz.

Lancaster Jazz Festival.
Last years event saw Mercury nominated act Roller Trio take to the stage alongside a whole host of other aspiring artists. Run entirely by volunteers the Lancaster Jazz festival has a close knit and friendly vibe, which is ideal for up and coming musicians. To take apart in the Lancaster Jazz Festival, send your music to the team at the Lancaster Jazz Festival who are starting work on the line up for this years event in September. The deadline for submissions is 31st March 2013 at 5pm. You can apply here
Go North is another festival that has teamed up with Bandwagon to offer unsigned artists the chance to play at this years festival. GoNorth is an industry conference and showcase for the most exciting music of all genres. The festival is held in numerous venues across Inverness city centre and aims to highlight emerging talent from across the UK. The goNorth 2013 compilation will feature a selection of showcasing artists which will also be release direct to the industry via Music Week. Submissions close on 1st April 2013.
Kerrang Radio: The Big Audition
Kerrang Radio's Big Audition is your chance to get your track played on every show on Kerrang! Radio, get feedback from a K! expert, appear in Kerrang! magazine, be interviewed by Loz & Keith on the Unsigned Show and play in front of a panel of judges. You also win gear from Laney and get a promo video shot by some experts. Although this is not a festival slot it's a great opportunity to get involved with.
One thing to mention is that to enter the competition you have to make a £60 donation to the 'Cash For Kids' charity. You can apply here
